My name is Ken Kebow and I've been in Carlsbad for over 40 years. As a child, I used to join friends and family and watch great films at the Carlsbad Theater when it was the only cinema in town. I attended Magnolia Elementary, Valley Middle School and Carlsbad High so I've been a part of the Carlsbad community for many years
I've always thought the venue would be very successful as a place to screen classic movies (much like the Ken Cinema in San Diego did for 80 years) and the theater would also be an ideal spot down in the Village where the community could gather for meetings and live events. With a sizable stage, a great audio and video set-up and plenty of seats at an ideal location, I feel the opportunities to use the space are limitless.
How can you help? Share this web site with the community and on social media and let your friends and family know what is happening. Everyone in Carlsbad I have talked to loves the idea of "keeping the Carlsbad Theater a theater" and with the support for the Carlsbad community, the downtown Carlsbad businesses and the owners of the property we can keep
this historical Carlsbad landmark!
When I asked RPG in Encinitas, owners of the Carlsbad Theater property, why they wouldn't rent me the venue for The Carlsbad Speaker Series, here is what RPG President Adam Robinson texted me as their reason! This reply saying "We have other plans now for the property" with no clarification has me concerned. And I hope it has you concerned as well!
Pictured above is the promo material for the Carlsbad Theater. The owners of the property seemed to have forgotten to list "a theater" as a possible use for the space?! Hmmmm . . . .
The owners of the CARLSBAD Theater have changed the name of OUR beloved theater to "The State Street Theater", I believe in attempt to keep interested buyers of the property unaware of our powerful grassroots campaign to "keep OUR Theater a theater." Spread the word about this and direct interested friends and family to this website for timely updates. THANKS!
